Solbrana’s Solar Roof System is a “standard commercial single-ply membrane roof system with a standard solar PV system” that functions “as an ‘inseparable engineered system’.” This type of system is consider a Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system that allows both the solar and roof to be classified a “Section 48” energy property by the IRS. This enables an owner to apply the Solar Investment Tax Credit and depreciation to both the roof and solar.
